Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis) is a yellow wildflower. The oil extract of this beautiful flower (Evening Primrose Oil or EPO) is taken as a supplement for a variety of benefits. Evening primrose oil (EPO) contains an omega-6 essential fatty acid, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) which our body converts to a hormone-like substance called prostaglandin. Diets high in saturated fat, disease, the aging process and deficiencies in some vitamins can all block the conversion of LA to GLA in our bodies. And although our bodies are able to manufacture GLA from dietary linoleic acid, GLA can be more efficiently utilized when supplied directly by dietary sources.
